Tummy-Yummy “Smootie” (a.k.a smoothie)

IMG_20131001_152836What’s an easy breakfast meal that’s sure to please? How do you get fussy toddlers to eat their veggies? What can you throw together in 5 minutes and clean up just as fast?


What's our basic smoothie formula?
Smoothies go like this:

Basic Base
(serves 2 or one hungry-hungry)

2 cups liquid- raw milk keifer (water keifer, almond milk any will do!)
1 frozen banana

Next add some responsibly raised goodness for variety...

Green Smoothie  (Happy Day!)
add in 1 cup of fresh spinach, an apple, a 1 in cube of peeled ginger, and a squeeze of lemon.

Pink-delicious (Super Cleansing)
Add in 1 cup frozen strawberries or tart cherries, (black or blue berries work well too)
Next toss in a medium sized beet,
2 tbs of fairly traded cacao powder (optional)

Sunny Day Smoothie
Add in 2 carrot 
1 peeled orange
1/2 cup of frozen strawberries
1 in cube of ginger (optional)

If you have a high power blender, you can throw the everything into blender in
 "liquids, frozen, fresh" order.

If you don't have a high power blender, bummer- jk :). Until last Christmas all of my smoothies 
were made in a garage sale special food processor or my baby food processor so it will totally work.
I found it helps to chop the solids well and THEN blend. Next, while processing, SLOWLY add the liquid.
My walls and cupboards are stained and splattered with the results of hurrying the process.

Pour into a couple of glasses and enjoy!
